Ben Johnson

Ben has been involved with Science Communication and Education for over fifteen years and is Managing Director of Graphic Science Ltd, one of the most innovative and influential consultancies in the field.

He has worked extensively in schools researching, devising and delivering drama based projects on topics as diverse as Robotics, Bio-ethics, Climate Change and Engineering.  His portfolio also includes media campaign work funded by the OSI and the European Union, bespoke evaluation and scoping research for the Wellcome Trust, EPSRC, the British Council, Cheltenham Festivals Ltd and the Royal Society and a variety of science communication projects delivered throughout the UK and overseas.

Ben has considerable experience in the development and delivery of communication training programmes and is often called upon to provide facilitation for events, meetings and stakeholder discussions on behalf of external clients, including: the National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement, the Beacons for Public Engagement, the Department of Innovation Universities and Skills (DIUS) and the British Council.

Ben is a Visiting Fellow at the Centre for Science Education, Sheffield Hallam University; the University of the West of England, Bristol; and the Department of Science Studies at University College, London.

He regularly reviews public engagement grants for funding bodies including: The Wellcome Trust, STFC, NESTA, and The Royal Academy of Engineering. He has also chaired the reviewing panel for EPSRC’s PPE scheme.

The Royal Academy of Engineering is driven by four strategic challenges, one of which is to 'promote engineering at the heart of society'. We have worked successfully with The Training Group to provide public engagement training for our most promising young engineers so that they can be more effective ambassadors for the engineering profession.
